VERSE AND STEEL

Afterword
Verse And Steel Between The Lines
Little did I know that well over thirty five years ago when I
scribed my first motorcycle poem, I would be here today a
part of the Bikerpoetry movement and asked to write the
afterword for Verse And Steel. I can remember back in the
day when Bikerpoets were lucky if they received one or two
hard copy publishings a year and now with the support of
monthly motorcycle magazines and newspapers, as well as
the many internet resources available, opportunities abound
for the arts and artists of the biker lifestyle.
Way back when, I had no idea that there were other like
minded individuals out the riding and writing their way down
the road and into literary history. And that the photographers
whose work I grew up with in magazines across news stands,
I would one day shake hands with and befriend. Verse And Steel
presents the artists within it's pages in such a way that we get
to read between the lines of their respective works and get a
glimpse into the lives of the person behind the pen, behind the
lens when the shutter snaps, behind the bars of the motorcycles
that they ride. Preserving moments in ink and photographs that
depict the lifestyle they so passionately live.
Collectively Verse And Steel is literary history. Individually it is a
respect given back to each and every artist within it's pages,
whose dedication to their respective crafts is as deep as the
lifestyle they live on a daily basis. The love of the wind and the
road does not stop when the motor is off and the bike is cooling
down. It continues on through the written word, through
photographs that have been captured in moments out there on
the backroads, the highways and the many pit stops visited
along the way.
Being an Associate Columnist for Don Clady's Connecticut Cruise
News Poets' Corner has allowed me to hone my skills as a writer
and given opportunity to publish other Biker Poets as well. Which
I take as a personal accomplishment, to be able to present the
work of seasoned riders/writers as well as up and coming
Bikerpoets towards hard copy publishing. Opportunities that once
were non existent are now available and many a Bikerpoet have
received their first hard copy publishing in the Connecticut Cruise
News. Promoting the work of others is a solid endeavor, and Verse
And Steel does justice to that concept.
The Bikerpoetry movement is made up of many individuals riding
down their own roads. Putting pen to paper, capturing photographs,
singing songs, paying homage to the lifestyle that many have given
their lives for to be able to live. Upon two wheels and open roads
they ride, Verse And Steel to become a part of their collective
memories as a well deserved pit stop captured and preserved,
shared and cherished. An Anthology held in hand and appreciated.
Our respect is given to the artists featured within the pages of
Verse And Steel and those out there riding down their own roads,
for without them the preservation of our history would only be in
our memories.
